Become a member
Joining the society is easy and free. Most students sign up during freshers week but membership is open all year round. What are you waiting for?
One of the primary objectives of our society is to increase the number of African students at the University of Oxford. We support prospective applicants from Africa or with African background through assistance during their application process. We can match candidates with fellow African students who have studied or are studying at Oxford in the same academic area.
This may be of significant importance for students arriving at the Oxford for the first time. Having a friend on arrival can help facilitate many things!
What the scheme offers:
- Match with a mentor in Oxford of similar regional background / in similar study field
- Review of application documents to provide tentative feedback
- Support with questions about the academic programmes and life in Oxford
What the scheme does not offer:
- Filling application form
- Writing essays
- Payment of application fees
- Guarantee of an offer of a place
- Binding feedback on your application
We encourage you to apply at the University of Oxford. If you are interested in this programme, please contact us for any inquiry, or to help us help you
News and Events

Have your say
Members of the society are invited to a General Meeting every term to discuss the current affairs of the society. One Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held in Trinity Term to comment on the activities of the past year and chose the committee of the following academic year.
All committee members are approachable for information and to give or request advice.
There are many ways to be involved with the society even after leaving the university.
If you are still in Oxford or close, then you are invited to participate in all events organised for current students.
If you are leaving, we would still like to stay connected. Please share your contacts with us using the form below. It will be a way for both you and us to grow our networks and increase the opportunities we can provide new members. You will also receive an alumni dedicated newsletter.
The Oxford University Africa Society (AfriSoc) is a student-operated club at the University of Oxford. All of our programming is done by volunteers. Send us an e-mail to learn more about ways to support the core programming and mission of the Society at Oxford and abroad: email@example.com
