Clement Amponsah

Doctoral Researcher in the Politics of Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation| DPhil Candidate in International Development

Clement Amponsah a DPhil (PhD) candidate in International Development at the Oxford Department of International Development (ODID). His research focuses on resilience theory and policy practice, climate change adaptation, climate finance, environmental and climate (in)justice, resistance, and decolonisation in the Anthropocene. He previously completed an MPhil in Development Studies at the University of Oxford and holds a BA in Political Science with Philosophy from the University of Ghana. 

Clement is a Programme Facilitator at the UNESCO Center for Peace in Maryland, USA, where he has chaired and presided over UNTWO, ECOSOC, and UN WOMEN Committees over the last five years. He is also a Student Researcher at the Oxford Technology and Industrialisation for Development Center (TIDE) and a Senior Researcher on the AHRC-funded project, Decolonising Resilience: African Voices in Conversation (Resilience Voices), which has convened workshops in Accra (Ghana), Juba (South Sudan), and Kigali (Rwanda). 

He is a graduate of the Oxford Climate Society’s School of Climate Change and the Lead for Sustainability Initiative by the Oxford Global Shapers (World Economic Forum). Previously, he served as Environment and Sustainability Officer for St Antony’s College GCR and occasionally organises ODID’s Climate Change and the Challenges for Development series. 

Clement has served as a Guest Lecturer at the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana. Additionally, he has worked as a Research Assistant for Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG-Ghana), and the Politics Department at the University of Ghana. He also served as Campus Director for the Hult Prize Foundation and has volunteered with ‘International Association of Students in Economics and Commercial Sciences’ (AIESEC) in Kazan, Russia.
