Volunteer

Chinenye is an Optiver Scholar and Energy Systems M.Sc. candidate at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. She graduated top of her undergraduate class with a First-Class Honors degree in Earth Science from the University of Ghana in 2013. Following that, she has navigated the turbulent oil & gas fields in Africa as a Field Engineer, conducted extensive research on the controversial topic of power sector regulation in Europe as a Power Africa Energy Fellow, and managed complex high-priority capital projects for leading utilities across North America as a Senior Project Analyst. In many capacities, she has remained consistent with energy, serving and contributing immensely to multiple sub-sectors of the global energy industry, across public and private sectors. She is passionate about conscientious implementation of leading technologies and efficient policies in the global energy value chain to attain net zero. Despite the fragility of Africa’s political economy and vulnerable democracy, it is her aim that sub-Saharan Africa strives to attain a balance in the energy trilemma - energy security, equity, sustainability. She firmly believes that African policymakers should consider the energy transition from an African context at global negotiation spaces, without any compromises to the continent’s economic growth and development.
