Lauren Schaefer is a MSc student in Criminology and Criminal Justice from South Africa and a member of Wolfson College. Her journey started at the University of Cape Town, where she earned a Bachelor of Social Science and LLB (cum laude), merging her interests in social sciences and law.

Passionate about human rights and the delicate balance between law and justice, Lauren hopes her master's studies will enable her to contribute to much-needed reform within the criminal justice system. Thus far her research has focused on transitional justice, the role of prisons and global abolition of the death penalty. Lauren also serves as an assistant for the Foreign National Women Prisoners Legal Aid Clinic, in collaboration with the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights.

In 2024, Lauren has taken on the role of Volunteer Coordinator, aiming to ensure the smooth operation and success of the conference.
