MARYAM NINA HARDY
ISF Coordinator
Maryam Nina Hardy, a Clarendon, and AfOx Kennedy Trust Scholar at the University of Oxford, is pursuing a DPhil in Molecular and Cellular Medicine. Originating from Ghana, Nina obtained a first-class Bachelor's in Applied Biology from the University for Development Studies and a Master's in Biotechnology with distinction from the University of Glasgow. Her research has primarily focused on viral diseases, including Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), Parvoviruses, COVID-19, and Rotaviruses, in Ghana and Uganda.
Nina's notable achievements include developing a diagnostic tool for a novel parvovirus and Sepsis detection during her tenure as a Chevening Scholar and collaborating with a Scottish biotech firm on an HPV diagnostic tool. Her work has propelled her to a key role in the Oxford Africa Conference committee, where she is a coordinator for the innovation seed fund. This position allows her to contribute significantly to bridging the diagnostic gap and reducing disease prevalence in Africa.
Nina's passion lies in understanding immune responses in viral infections, particularly in host-viral interactions. Her current research at Oxford is centred on analysing the immunoglobulin repertoire in Hepatitis B infection.
