Reclaiming the Lens: Empowering African Voices Through Media, Arts & Culture
This panel highlights the importance of African agency in storytelling beyond the disciplines of media arts and culture. It is centred on the significance of authoring and shaping the narrative that informs the global perception of Africa and its various cultural identities. It will explore how African nations, and private organizations can develop and strengthen systems and infrastructure to produce globally competitive media tailored to Africa’s unique needs and cultural context. We hope to empower all Africans to discover the beauty in owning and reclaiming their own narrative, despite their respective industries. We will also explore how film, arts, and fashion persist as culturally significant mediums of expression and communication and how this informs the larger theme of the conference: Changing Narratives.
