Elikem Logan
Art Historian & Consultant
Elikem Logan is an Art Historian primarily concerned with West African Modernism and art praxis in the early postcolonial period. Born and raised in Ghana, his research interests span the breadth of African Modern and Contemporary art history, with proficiencies in the politico-cultural, legal, and intellectual history of West Africa. Most recently, his written work has centred on the historicisation of the contemporary art ecology in Ghana. He holds an MA in Art History and Management and an MLitt in Legal and Constitutional Studies from the University of St Andrews, as well as an MSc in African Studies from Oxford University.
With nearly 2.5 years of experience within the African Modern & Contemporary Department at Sotheby’s—which itself maintained over 50% market share in the market for Modern & Contemporary Art for six consecutive years—Elikem has developed expertise in sales, marketing, client engagement, and specialist knowledge of the category. He has generated sales both within and outside the category, working across departments to cater to African clients’ buying habits, regardless of the objects and their connection to his academic specialism. He has led various initiatives within and outside Sotheby’s to increase awareness of the sector, develop talent pipelines within major academic institutions, and engage stakeholders across the industry to contribute to the longevity of African artists’ participation in the international art market.
