Mr. Manuel Koranteng

Manuel Koranteng is a multiple-award winning international journalist and media relations specialist. He has up to a decade’s experience in African storytelling, working across several titles on and off the continent, including as a documentary producer and news anchor with Joy News in Accra, Ghana, and more recently as a freelance political journalist and producer with the BBC in London. He was tipped as the young journalist to watch by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), which in 2022 awarded him the prestigious Komla Dumor Most Promising Journalist prize for his human rights reporting leading to major reforms in child protection and mental health rights in the country. He has been a researcher for BBC Africa eye on a couple of major investigations across Ghana and Nigeria.

As an executive member of the Black Members Council of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the UK, Manuel is an advocate for equitable representation in newsrooms across the country. More importantly, he believes in decolonising African storytelling from the inside out, by strengthening African agency in shaping global narratives — through African-led funding, reporting, and production. He is the founder and executive director of MentaPulse Africa, a Ghana-based charity leveraging the power of arts and media to advocate for employee mental health and wellbeing on the continent.

Currently, Mr Koranteng is a media relations specialist for the University of Brighton, where his work amplifies academic voices, student innovation and research outcomes for national and global impact.

Manuel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Ghana and a master’s in Journalism and Media Studies from the University of Sussex, here in England.
