Sonny Iroche

Sonny Iroche  is a seasoned board director with extensive experience across the insurance, banking, and financial sectors. He currently serves as Chairman of GenAI Learning Concepts Ltd and Strategic Alliance Promotion Company, and sits on the boards of Heirs General Insurance, United Capital Plc, and Arco Energy Group, Nigeria.

A Senior Academic Fellow (2022–2023) at the African Studies Centre, University of Oxford, Sonny is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Artificial Intelligence for Business at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford (2024–2025). He is actively contributing to the advancement of AI governance in Africa as a member of the Technical Working Group for UNESCO’s AI Readiness Assessment Methodology in Nigeria and the Nigeria National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee.

Sonny is deeply committed to education and talent development. He is a member of the Board of Governors at Premiere Academy, Abuja, and a member of the Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee for West Africa at the University of Oxford. His academic contributions include guest lectures on the Joint Executive MBA programme of London Business School and Columbia University, New York.

His educational background includes an MBA from Roosevelt University, Chicago (1988), a BSc in Zoology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1974–1978), and executive education in Leading Organizational Change at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business (2016). He also completed the Executive Treasury Management Program at Irving Trust Bank (now Bank of New York) in 1986.

Earlier in his career, Sonny worked at International Merchant Bank, an affiliate of the First National Bank of Chicago (1982–1989), served as an academic instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy (1979–1982).

Sonny Iroche continues to be a leading voice in corporate governance, AI policy, and international development strategy.
