Ruth

Ruth Fredrick Shoo

Ruth is a cultural studies scholar pursuing her DPhil in American History at Wolfson College. She holds a B.A in Interdisciplinary American Studies from the University of Tübingen, Germany and a MSc in African Studies from the University of Oxford. Ruth has worked as an integration and migration officer for the Baden Wüttermberg state government in Germany and as an academic writing tutor at the university of Tübingen. Currently, Ruth works as the graduate scholarship student facilitator for the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx). In collaboration with AfOx, the African Society is working to increase access and scholarships for African students at the University of Oxford.

 

Ruth’s interests lie in diasporic settings and she strives to push for inclusion and recognition of African students in higher education institutions. Visibility, inclusion, and representation of varying narratives are principles that inform Ruth’s scholarly and personal interests.
