Marieme Mbacke Gueye is an AfOx Mastercard Foundation Scholar pursuing a Master's in Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford.
Her passions lie at the intersection of public policy, education, mental health, and the empowerment of girls and women through learning.
Prior to Oxford, Marieme was a Strategy and Policy Consultant at Dalberg Advisors, where she advised clients on political strategy on high-impact development projects across Africa. She worked with governments, UN agencies, philanthropic foundations, Bilateral Aid & Development Agencies and NGOs such as UNICEF, GAVI, WHO, the Mastercard Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Swiss Cooperation, the Governments of Senegal and Mali, ECOWAS, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, AMREF Health, etc.
In 2023, Marieme served as an Education Specialist for the UNFCCC COP28 Presidency, contributing to climate education, green skills advocacy, and strategic alignment efforts. She co-organized the World Climate Action Summit: Youth and Education – The Latent Force of Climate Action, which convened Heads of State, UN leaders, and youth advocates.
In 2022, Marieme was selected as one of 20 entrepreneurs (from over 360 applicants) for the Orange Corners incubation program, supported by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Haske Ventures. Through this program, she founded HI-WERR (meaning “I heal” in Wolof), a social enterprise that supports girls and women in Sub-Saharan Africa (pilot in Senegal) to improve their mental health and wellbeing. HI-WERR offers school-based mental health awareness campaigns, educational resources, and workshops/ events curated by mental health professionals.
Looking to the future, Marieme is committed to using her policy training and professional experience to break down systemic barriers and create more inclusive and supportive learning environments for girls and women across the continent.
