Varun
Convener
Varun is a Rhodes Scholar reading for a DPhil in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. He is passionate about coupling decarbonisation and economic growth in emerging nations. His research is on the impact of renewable fuels on unregulated emissions.
Varun is interested in how developing economies could benefit from the transition to low-carbon mobility where currently sustainable energy access and security are difficult and non-equitable. Coming from Zambia, he has witnessed the power of transport and mobility to facilitate socio-economic growth, however, with the lack of stringent policies and regulations, these development pathways can lead to adverse effects. His motivation for actioning the UN SDGs has earned him a Fellowship at the Oxford SDG Impact Lab. His experience ranges from net-zero roadmap design, battery supply chain analysis, to
coastal blue carbon offsetting, and quality control in Ford vehicle factory.
