H.E Anne Mumbi Waiguru, 

Chairperson of the Council of Governors in Kenya and Governor of Kirinyaga County.

 

Anne Waiguru is a prominent figure in Kenyan politics. She serves as the Governor of Kirinyaga County and holds the esteemed position of Chairperson of the Council of Governors. With a background as the First Devolution Cabinet Secretary and a fervent advocate for gender and women's rights, she embodies a multifaceted leadership role. Anne holds a Master's Degree in Economic Policy and an MBA, demonstrating her commitment to academic excellence.

 

In addition to her professional achievements, Anne cherishes her roles as a wife, mother, daughter, and friend. Her interests extend beyond politics, as she enjoys golfing, watching movies, and travelling whenever her schedule allows. Anne's global recognition stems from her affiliation with the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf network, where she nurtures and mentors women leaders through the Amujae Leadership Forum.

 

Groundbreaking milestones have marked Anne Waiguru's political journey. In 2017, she was elected Governor amidst a highly competitive election, making history as one of the first three women to hold such a position in Kenya. Notably, she is the sole woman to be reelected as Governor and the first female Chairperson of the Council of Governors.

 

Her contributions to public service are extensive and impactful. As Cabinet Secretary, Anne introduced Huduma Centers to improve public service accessibility. At the National Treasury, she spearheaded the implementation of the Integrated Financial Management Information System, earning her team three awards for exemplary performance. Anne advocated for the reservation of 30% of government contracts for women and youth, promoting economic inclusion.

 

Anne Waiguru's commitment to advancing healthcare is evident through her efforts towards Universal Health Coverage. She initiated infrastructure, system, and human development programs, with the ultra-modern Kerugoya Level Five Hospital as a flagship project. Additionally, her Agriculture Stimulus program, "Wezesha," has supported thousands of households, contributing to economic empowerment.

 

Recognising the importance of gender parity in governance, Anne champions the Embrace and 2/3 gender principle, aiming to elevate women's representation in public offices. As Chairperson of the Council of Governors, she has fostered improved relations between the council and national government leadership.

 

Anne Waiguru's strategic vision is encapsulated in the G7 Strategy, which aims to support the reelection and increase the number of elected women governors, furthering the promise of devolution in Kenya. With her dedication to service and advocacy for gender equality, Anne envisions a future where such equality is no longer an aspiration but a reality in Kenya.
