Julie Ojiambo

Julie Ojiambo is a student of Diplomatic Studies at the University of Oxford, Department of Continuing Education. She will be serving as a Co-Convenor in this year’s Oxford Africa Conference.
Prior to joining Oxford University, Julie worked as a Political Participation Analyst with the UN Women East and Southern Africa regional Office on issues of Governance and Women’s Political Participation. She joined the Diplomatic Studies course in 2024, on the prestigious Mastercard Foundation AfOx Scholarship. She is a member of Linacre College. This is her second degree at Oxford University having pursued the Master’s degree in International Human Rights Law class of 2019. Julie also holds an Honor’s Bachelor Degree in Political Science from the City University of New York, Hunter College.
She is interested in the themes of: Politics, Governance, Human Rights and Diplomacy; examining how they relate to Africa in a Globalized world. She is also interested in developmental issues that touch upon realizing the full capability and capacities of Africa’s women and youth.
Julie has worked with the United Nations Population Fund Somalia Country Office. She has also previously worked with the Network of African Human Rights Institutions, the African Union Commission- Department of Political Affairs; African Governance Architecture and UNDP Liberia Governance and Public Institutions Unit as a Governance Analyst (Fellow), on the inaugural cohort of the UNDP African Young Women Leaders Fellowship Programme, as the Kenyan Fellow on the first cohort of the Fellowship.
Some of her notable written work includes: A Gender Assessment she conducted in 2022 on the Kenyan General Election, an Assessment on the State of Women and Land Rights in Kenya and articles written on youth and women’s issues in Africa such as: Youth Impact in Global Development: Reframing Equality & Inclusion and Pan African Women’s Day: Celebrating Contributions & Aspirations.
Julie’s favorite past time activities including traveling- exploring new cities and new places. She enjoys baking. She loves to debate all things Africa, particularly African politics and current affairs. She is a lover of African fashion.
She is thrilled to be playing a role in this year’s 2025 Oxford Africa Conference. She looks forward to actively playing a role in working towards building a positive Africa. Julie is grateful for platforms such as the Oxford Africa Conference where positive, tangible stories of the continent can be illuminated.
