
Sizwe Mpofu Walsh
International Relations Lecturer, Podcaster,
Author of The New Apartheid
Sizwe Mpofu Walsh is an author, academic, and media innovator.
He holds a DPhil in International Relations from the University of Oxford, and is a Lecturer in the Department of International Relations at Wits University. He completed an law degree from the University of South Africa in 2024.
His first book Democracy and Delusion: 10 Myths in South African Politics (2017) won the City Press-Tafelberg Nonfiction Award. The book was accompanied by a rap album of the same name. His second book The New Apartheid (2021) was one of the bestselling books in South Africa that year. He was described by the author Mark Gevisser as ‘one of the finest writers of his generation.’
In broadcasting, Mpofu-Walsh hosted the prime-time current affairs show Unfiltered on SABC in 2023. He is the founder of the popular current affairs YouTube channel SMWX, with over 350 000 subscribers.
