Yasmin Tukur

Creative Co-Lead

Yasmin Tukur is a Black Academic Futures Scholar pursuing an MSc in African Studies. She holds a BA in Liberal Arts from the University of Warwick, where she specialised in Systemic Sustainable Development and Cultural Studies. Her academic and professional interests centre on African knowledge systems, contemporary cultural production, and the curation of cultural heritage within interdisciplinary, art-led institutions. At Oxford, her research explores how creative practice, memory, art, and institutional frameworks can contribute to the inclusive preservation of African cultural heritage.

As Co-Creative Lead of the Oxford Africa Conference, Yasmin co-leads the creative vision and direction of the conference, shaping its thematic framing, programming ethos, and aesthetic identity. Her approach to creative leadership is grounded in people-centred storytelling, interdisciplinary collaboration, and intentional curation.

Beyond academia, Yasmin brings experience across cultural programming, community leadership, and Africa-focused initiatives. She has worked as an independent Creative Projects and Relations Manager for Screen Nigeria, supporting global engagement for Nigeria’s audiovisual sector through international festivals and creative programming. She is also a multidisciplinary artist working across fashion, photography, and art, with a strong interest in independent and African creative ecosystems.

Yasmin has a sustained commitment to equity, education, and community-building. She previously served as Vice-President of the Nigerian Society at the University of Warwick, has volunteered extensively with education-focused non-profits including BUILD Nigeria, and currently serves as an EDI Officer on the Wadham College MCR Committee.

Ultimately, she is dedicated to building inclusive communities and fostering meaningful exchange within and beyond borders across institutional and cultural spaces
